Dynasty Fantasy Football: Offseason Wide Receiver Carousel

By Matthew Barnhill Wide Receiver is fantasy’s premier position in dynasty, shaping the way teams are often made into powers. Looking into the offseason crystal ball can help managers make decisions and look like geniuses later on. Should you be buying players with expiring contracts this year? Who are the best players that can fill in holes for WR needy teams? Just like we did with the Running Back position, this article takes a look ahead at the 2026 offseason. Included are teams in need of Wide Receiver talent, either by free agency or in the draft. I’ve listed names of some of the top free agents, and incoming rookies to give a better glimpse of what pieces might be moving, and reshaping the league. New England Patriots The Pats have the most cap space in the league going into next offseason. Giving Drake Maye a true alpha at the wide receiver position with more youth than Stefon Diggs could assist in his progression into superstar status; however, one thing to note is the difficulty new wideouts have in the Josh McDaniels offense. Familiarity with the system (Jakobi Meyers) could be huge, but if they choose to outsource or go with a rookie, dynasty managers may need to be prepared to have patience. Washington Commanders Obviously, having Jayden Daniels go down several times affects everything about the Commanders’ offense, but Washington also struggled mightily to find playmakers behind Terry McLaurin this season. Deebo Samuel was decent, but struggled with injuries, and him and Terry have celebrated their 30th birthdays already. Last offseason, general manager Adam Peters built an offensive line for Jayden; now it’s time to give him an arsenal of weapons. Tennessee Titans Calvin Ridley broke his fibula week 11 after failing to impress, and the Titans have been in shambles. They tried to give Cam Ward something to work with when they drafted two WR this spring, but all they’ve truly gotten is Chimereke Dike, special teams ace. Ward has had expected rookie jitters, but shows signs of promise- this front office will find someone for him to throw to. Cleveland Browns Harold Fannin has been a gem for Cleveland, and a crucial piece as it’s Njoku’s last hurrah in the home of rock and roll. However, the receiving corps is a hot pile of trash. Jerry Jeudy did not live up to the contract year he had in ‘24, and Cleveland was in trade talks for Garrett Wilson around the deadline (which were quickly shut down because New York is equally bad at WR behind Wilson). They’ll be in the market for a WR this offseason, and dynasty managers should be ready. New York Jets A complete wildcard when trying to predict what they’ll do this offseason, the Jets have a lot of picks, but also a lot of needs on the roster. Will Aaron Glenn keep Adonai Mitchell and John Metchie behind Garrett Wilson, or find others to develop in the gang green rebuild? The Las Vegas Raiders are probably behind even the Jets in offensive incompetence. They need a clean slate, and that might include someone better suited to compliment Brock Bowers. FREE AGENTS George Pickens Pickens has been remarkable this season, finally showing the kind of ceiling promised since all the way back in high school as a five star recruit. He’s improved his all around game, and shined as Dallas’ number one WR when Ceedee Lamb was out. Over the past few weeks, some immaturity issues have popped up again, and Pickens is always outspoken, to say the least. But if Dallas doesn’t franchise tag him, another team is bound to give George the bag and make him a number one for their team. Mike Evans Seeing Mike go down with a collarbone injury earlier this season was truly tragic- his 1,000 yard season streak had finally ended. But, last week against Atlanta, Mike looked like the Hall of Famer we know and love. At 32, it’s very likely he tries to finish his career in Tampa, but if he chose to move teams he’d be an asset wherever he goes. Jakobi Meyers Meyers continues to be a dependable wideout wherever he goes. This year began shaky, but seeing the Raiders play right now it’s easy to see why he wanted out. Meyers has recovered some fantasy cred since making his way to Jacksonville. Will the Jags retain him? Or will he continue his league journey at another place? OTHER NAMES Deebo Samuel started off hot for the Commanders, but his best days are clearly in the past. He likely is re-signed by WAS to make sure that they have some depth before taking a swing at WR in the draft. Jauan Jennings has run into injury problems too often, like any player in San Francisco. But he likely stays in the Bay Area because Brandon Aiyuk is done there and Ricky Pearsall also has had the injury bug. Wan’Dale Robinson has been admirable in his breakout season without being in the shadow of Malik Nabers. He’s proven to have more talent than the usage he received in the beginning of his career, but is more of a flex play or depth piece long term than a starter for dynasty managers. Alec Pierce also shined along with the Colts in their early season success. Daniel Jones could place the ball wherever Pierce needed it, and he could finally make the most of his targets. Alec proved he’s more than just a cardio guy for a WR corps. INCOMING DRAFT PROSPECTS This list of guys could all easily be drafted on the first two days of the NFL draft, and are interesting options for managers in dynasty rookie drafts. Keep an eye out for them during bowl season and the college football playoffs. Jordyn Tyson, Arizona State
