DYNASTY FF CRYSTAL BALL: Taking a Look Ahead at Offseason's RB Carousel

By Matthew Barnhill In Dynasty Fantasy Football, being able to look ahead can drastically improve manager’s roster building skills. One exercise I like to do is to take a look at which teams might make a change at each fantasy relevant position, and which players might be available to them that offseason. I have highlighted the Running Back position for this article. The teams I have chosen are a combination of what I believe are the organizations in biggest need of new RBs, most likely to make changes, and are the best destinations for fantasy success. The players I have highlighted are free agents this offseason, or some of the best incoming college prospects. Houston Texans This team has lacked a strong identity on the ground in 2025. The offensive line has made small improvements however, and although Woody Marks has been a fun spark plug, an improvement at RB1 would make a lot of sense, especially if the team cuts Joe Mixon. Mixon was a solid fantasy option when healthy, and the Texans elite defense provides run friendly game scripts. This is an underrated landing spot. Kansas City Chiefs The Chiefs’ team rushing yards are similar to averages the team has always posted in the Reid-Mahomes era, but when watching this year there are too many times it’s apparent it needs more juice at the position. It was reported that KC made calls at the trade deadline, inquiring about players around the league to upgrade their Kareem Hunt-led RB stable. Isaiah Pacheco is in the final year of his contract, and won’t be re-signed, and Hunt and Brashard Smith aren’t enough. This team will add someone new next spring, and hopefully they will provide the Chiefs and fantasy managers plenty of points. Washington Commanders The Commanders have pounded the rock successfully this year; as of this writing, they average the third most yards per game with 138.9. This, in spite of losing Jayden Daniels for several games, and taking a step back overall from the offensive success of yesteryear. Austin Ekeler, Jeremy McNichols, and Chris Rodriguez are all in the last year of their deals, and “Bill” Croskey Merrit hasn’t lived up to the hype of the fantasy community. Washington would be an outstanding landing spot for fantasy RBs next year. Chicago Bears Head coach Ben Johnson has completely rejuvenated the Bears offense this year, and the scary part for the rest of the league is that it feels like he is just getting started. Going into week 14, the team is second in the league in rushing yards per game, only two yards shy of Buffalo. This is with half backs Deandre Swift and Kyle Monangai taking the majority of the work; while they have done well, there is still meat left on the bone, and bringing in more talent could fulfill more of the team’s potential behind this extraordinary offensive line, and an improving Caleb Williams. OTHER LANDING SPOTS Jacksonville Jaguars Etienne should be out the door, and Tuten is a jag. But, not a Jaguar- jag as in “just a guy”. Liam Coen developed some talented RBs in Tampa, and could find another gem for his team later. New York Jets The Jets in year one under Aaron Glenn have had trouble taking off, but it feels like the organization is beginning to build something that could be substantial in a few years. Whoever replaces Breece will find themselves behind an elite OL. FREE AGENTS Breece Hall Hall is the belle of the ball in this free agent crop. He has a great overall skillset in the run and pass game, but has run into a lot of bad luck throughout his career, whether because of injury or horrendous team performance. Make no mistake, should Breece sign with a contender or simply a mediocre offense that feeds him the ball, he will make a lot of fantasy managers happy. Kenneth Walker “K9” has had a lackluster fantasy season in 2025, but it seems obvious it’s more of a coaching decision than a lack of talent that limits him. Should he escape Zach Charbonnet’s goal line thievery, and join a team that truly appreciates Walker’s talents, we could see more of the star we saw at Michigan State and earlier in his career, in 2026. TIER II Travis Etienne hasn’t been the legend he was at Clemson, but is a RB capable of leading a backfield still. A fresh start could do him well. Rico Dowdle has been a revelation in Carolina this year, and had a good season in Dallas the year before. If he doesn’t re-sign with the Panthers, he could easily be a RB1 for another team. Rachaad White isn’t a superstar, but he’s a great asset in the passing game, and has proven he can lead a committee when needed. There are plenty of teams out there that need that kind of player, in the league, and in fantasy. Javonte Williams is almost a lock to return to Dallas, but has been awesome. Jeremiyah Love, Notre Dame Love might just win the Heisman trophy this year. A blend of power and elusiveness as a runner, and exceptional skills as a pass catcher, the Fighting Irish product is the next big thing at the running back position. OTHER NAMES TO WATCH Jonah Coleman, Washington
