Jacob Markstrom stopped all 15 shots he faced on Tuesday, September 29 as the Panthers defeated the Hurricanes 1-0 in overtime. The netminder played 64:55 and earned the win in his debut for Florida.

The shutout marks a clean start for Markstrom with his new club, though fantasy managers should note his save quality graded just 24 out of 100 among goalies with New Jersey. His recent averages with the Devils showed a 2.79 GAA and .897 save percentage across 132 games, numbers that flag him as a hold rather than a streaming priority despite the perfect performance.

The 15-save shutout gives fantasy managers their first look at Markstrom in a Panthers uniform, but the sample size is too small to project his role or performance in Florida. Every statistical baseline available comes from his time with the Devils, where he posted a 2.79 GAA and .897 save percentage. His save quality graded 24 out of 100 among all goalies, ranking him near the bottom in goals saved above expected and high-danger saves.

The Panthers play three more times this week on Thursday, Sunday and Tuesday, creating streaming opportunities if Markstrom gets the net. However, his track record suggests treating him as a hold in standard formats. The shutout is encouraging for his confidence in a new system, but managers need more starts to gauge whether Florida's defense will lift his ratios above what he produced in New Jersey.

What to do

• Hold Markstrom in standard formats while monitoring his workload and ratios with Florida.

• Watch to see if the Panthers give him starts on Thursday or Sunday before streaming him.

• Do not overreact to the shutout given his poor save quality grades and ratios with New Jersey.
