{"template":"baseball-prospect-risers","subtitle":"Taking a look at notable performances from the second week of minor leagues games","readTime":"10","intro":"This time of year is always extremely exciting for me. Many of last year's draft picks are making their minor league debuts and I'm continually scouring the box scores every morning to try and find the next breakout guy before the others in my league do. When trying to find those guys yourself, it's important to keep in mind that while some players are playing well, that doesn't mean that they'll be valuable big leaguers. As I was writing this, I felt like there was a lot of pessimism in the blurbs but the harsh reality is that a lot of these guys might succeed in the minors but won't be everyday big leaguers. Leaving those types of guys on the wire is just as important as picking up the ones that are breaking out. ","tiers":[{"id":"tier-1","label":"% Owned on Fantrax Murphy was looking like a potential breakout in 2024 when he went down with an elbow injury that required TJ surgery. He returned late last year looking very good and it's good to see him healthy and pitching in AA this season. He had a fantastic season debut, striking out 10 while giving up 2 runs in 5.2 IP. He's a good athlete with a good fastball and solid secondaries to play off of it, but none of the pitches put up huge whiff rates so he's likely a number 4 rather than a high ceiling guy. Still a very good pitching prospect. "},{"name":"Blaze Jordan","team":"STL","position":"1B","age":"23","pctOwned":"23","writeup":"It feels like Jordan has been a prospect for forever yet he's still only 23. He's off to a huge start to begin 2026 with 3 homers in 9 games for St Louis. At the end of the day, it's hard to see a path to being a big league regular though. He's put up better average EV's this season in this small sample but it's hard to discount last year's lackluster 85.5 average EV and 34.4% hard hit rate. That's just not going to cut it for a corner guy with a questionable glove. "},{"name":"James Triantos","team":"CHC","position":"2B","age":"23","pctOwned":"21","writeup":"Triantos is another guy that feels like he's been around forever and he has similar issues to Jordan. Lackluster hard hit rates, a glove that might relegate him to being a bench/utility guy and limit his fantasy ceiling. It might be tempting to grab these two prospects for proximity reasons, the upside isn't really there despite two very good starts. "},{"name":"Kayson Cunningham","team":"ARI","position":"SS","age":"19","pctOwned":"22","writeup":"Cunningham is off to a fantastic start to the season. The 18th overall pick has done exactly what you want from a teenager beginning his first full season. He's walking more than he's striking out, he's making good contact, and he's getting on base. The downside is that he's not a very big guy so his fantasy value is going to be reliant on getting on base and using his speed. The glove isn't that great either so he's really going to have to hit if he's gonna be a valuable piece. "},{"name":"Jhonny Level","team":"SF","position":"SS","age":"19","pctOwned":"20","writeup":"Level is another small guy but he's got some impressive power for someone that stands at 5'8\". He's showing that off right now with 2 homers in his first 5 games at A ball. I'm always skeptical of a player his size putting up big numbers as he advances up the ladder but this guy can really hit and may be the exception to the rule. I'm not ready to get too excited yet but some are already hyping him up. "}]},{"id":"tier-2","label":"% Owned on Fantrax Eyanson was arguably my favorite offseason target and he did not disappoint in his first outing. He struck out 6 in 3 innings while giving up 1 run on 3 hits and 0 walks. He got into some trouble in his third inning after giving up a homer and two hits but kept his composure and worked his way out of it. The fastball and breaking balls all missed bats and he displayed great command. It was everything you wanted to see from his debut. "},{"name":"Miguel Sime Jr","team":"WSH","position":"SP","age":"18","pctOwned":"11","writeup":"The 6'4\" 18 year old was dominant in his debut, striking out 6 of the 9 batters he faced and giving up one run. After just one start, he's got to be one of the most exciting pitching prospects thanks to an electric fastball that reaches 101mph. He needs refinement but if we're talking about his ceiling, it has got to be up there with some of the best pitching prospects in the game. "},{"name":"Cooper Ingle","team":"CLE","position":"C","age":"24","pctOwned":"17","writeup":"Ingle struggled after promotion to AAA in 2025 so it's good to see that he has hit the ground running to start the year. He's hit two homers in his first 9 games and has walked an astounding 12 times in 32 PA's. The ceiling isn't all that high but the hit tool is very good and he'll be extremely useful in OBP leagues. Naylor hasn't exactly impressed over the past two years and Austin Hedges is just not a very good baseball player so Ingle could be up sooner rather than later. "},{"name":"David Davalillo","team":"TEX","position":"SP","age":"23","pctOwned":"16","writeup":"Davalillo went 5.1 IP in his season debut, striking out 7, walking 2, giving up 4 hits and zero runs. The fastball isn't amazing but the secondary stuff, led by his double plus splitter, is very good and makes him an exciting pitching prospect. I left him off my top 100 pre-season but it's going to be very hard to do that again. I'm a fan. "},{"name":"Gavin Kilen","team":"SF","position":"SS","age":"22","pctOwned":"16","writeup":"Last year's 13th overall pick out of Tennessee has started the season very well in high A, which is great to see after a lackluster debut to end last season in A ball. He's not a huge guy and the ceiling isn't all that big, but Kilen is a good prospect with a high floor. He could be a fast mover in a system without many legitimate infield prospects in the upper minors if he continues to hit. "}]},{"id":"tier-3","label":"% Owned on Fantrax I wrote about Fauske as someone that could potentially breakout this season and he hasn't disappointed to start the year. He's shown his advanced plate approach by walking as much as he's striking out and adding two doubles, a triple, and stolen base in five games as well. The tools are all translating but I'd like to see him be more aggressive at the plate. His overly patient approach may cause him to miss out on some pitches he can drive and elevate the K's. I'm still very excited for his future though. "},{"name":"Marco Dinges","team":"MIL","position":"C","age":"22","pctOwned":"9","writeup":"Dinges was a 4th round pick out of Florida State in 2024 and had a fantastic 2025 despite missing some time with a hamstring injury. Milwaukee sent him back to A+ to begin the season so it's not surprising that he's gotten off to a good start. It's going to take him doing well in the upper majors for him to really take off in value because the contact rates aren't amazing and his power, while above average, isn't enough to make you look past them. He's not a great defensive catcher either which doesn't help things. "},{"name":"Ethan Petry","team":"WSH","position":"1B/OF","age":"21","pctOwned":"8","writeup":"A power over hit tool guy, Petry hit the ground running in his first couple of games at A+. He's an interesting name because of the 70 grade raw power so keep an eye on his contact rates throughout the season. He's only struck out once in his first 20 PA's so if he can somehow manage to keep them in check then his power will make him a dangerous hitter. "},{"name":"Cam Canarella","team":"MIA","position":"OF","age":"22","pctOwned":"7","writeup":"The 43rd overall pick in last year's draft hit his first homer of his minor league career the other day, going opposite field off a hanging breaking ball. He played much of last season injured so it's great to see him showing a bit of power now that he seems to be fully healthy. His elite center field defense will certainly give him chances to prove himself at all levels. "}]},{"id":"tier-4","label":"% Owned on Fantrax Drafted as a catcher last year, Gray has been playing primarily at 1B to begin his career with the Rays and he's been crushing the ball. The raw power is huge and he's getting some real helium to start the season. Still only 5% owned, the bat is legit and he should be grabbed before its too late. "},{"name":"Josiah Hartshorn","team":"CHC","position":"OF","age":"19","pctOwned":"5","writeup":"Hartshorn was a sixth round draft pick for the Cubs this past year but was given second round money to pull him away from a Texas A&M commitment. It's been a great debut week for the switch hitter who has shown off impressive contact rates and a mature plate approach in the small sample we've seen. At maturity, we hope to see a good hit tool and plate approach with above average power which will absolutely play in the big leagues. "},{"name":"Jesus Tillero","team":"LAD","position":"SP","age":"19","pctOwned":"2","writeup":"A pitching line as dominant as Tillero's the other day is worth noting: 5IP, 0ER, 2H, 0BB, 8K. The Dodgers typically do a good job developing their young arms, can Tillero be the next one? He was known for his fastball/slider combo when originally signing and is now throwing a cutter and changeup as well. Impressive debut from the 19 year old. "},{"name":"Ethan Hedges","team":"COL","position":"3B","age":"21","pctOwned":"1","writeup":"A third rounder and two way player out of USC, Hedges has started the year well at high A and has blasted two homers. The hit tool is supposed to be closer to average than plus and the power average as well so it will be interesting to see if he can keep up this hot start. His glove at 3B is fantastic and will give him a shot if the bat can keep up. "},{"name":"Cam Tilly","team":"NYM","position":"SP","age":"21","pctOwned":"1","writeup":"Primarily a reliever at Auburn, Tilly was a seventh round pick by the Mets and made his debut start in A ball this past week. He put up an impressive line, going 5 innings while striking out 6, walking 1, and giving up no hits or runs. Tilly has an intriguing arsenal, throwing six pitches and getting a lot of whiffs on the fastball and slider. The fastball only sat 92 with average extension so it's hard to imagine that it will miss bats at high rates at higher levels but still, a name to watch in deep leagues. "}]}]}
